HOME VISITS

Visits from a volunteer with a view to creating meaningful connections through sharing and mutual learning.

FRIENDLY PHONE CALLS

For anyone seeking friendly and reassuring contact by telephone.

MEALS ON WHEELS

This service helps individuals with loss of autonomy to continue living at home, particularly anyone aged 50 and over living alone or in a couple. It offers material and moral support through a service that delivers complete meals (minimum of three meals) to the house weekly, or daily by request.
Cost per meal: $7 

SPECIAL SUPPORT TRANSPORTATION

For individuals who need support to visit a loved one in hospital and have no other access to  transportation.

LEARNING NEW TECHNOLOGIES

This service will provide for easier communication between seniors and their families and increase their ability to remain informed through learning about new technologies.

CONFERENCES  AND TRAINING

Subjects that deal with the realities of life for individuals over 50 and their families and friends.

REFERENCES  AND INFORMATION

We have a variety of documents with information and we provide references to resources that can meet your needs.

Creating partnerships to enhance response time to a need, encourage social cohesion for seniors and develop ways to ensure their well being by helping them remain at home longer.

CONFERENCES/TRAINING

Offer conferences and training to individuals who are in regular contact with seniors enabling them to become better equipped for interacting with isolated seniors.

AWARENESS AND ADVOCACY

Various measures to bring awareness to the entire population regardless of age. A collection of stories, Tranches de vie/Life in vignettes has been prepared for this purpose.

 DEVELOPping OF SOCIAL COHESION

INTERGENERATIONAL COMPONENT

  • Joint activities with the Maison des jeunes (MDJ) and seniors in private residences and the Huntingdon CHSLD.
  • Joint activities between students at l’école Montpetit and participants in the Haut-Saint-Laurent Relais-répit des Aidants Naturels.
  • Youth at the MDJ create handmade Christmas and Saint-Valentine's day cards for seniors.
  • Seniors share their knowledge and craft techniques with youth at the MDJ.

RAISING AWARENESS ABOUT FAIR TREATMENT

LET'S VISIT OUR SENIORS CHALLENGE

  • Raise awareness in the community about the isolation of seniors.
  • Encourage the population to visit seniors and take measures to implement fair treatment.

TRANCHES DE VIE/LIFE IN VIGNETTES

  • Make known and highlight the contribution of seniors in the HSL through a collection of life stories.
  • Copies available on loan at the Little Green Library in Huntingdon.

VOLUNTEER INVOLVEMENT

  • Volunteers needed with a variety of skills and experience to meet the requirements of all of our projects. A wonderful way to actively contribute to the well being of our community.
